GUTTER CLEARANCE
Gutters are an integral part of any property, which is why we'll clear all of them out to ensure their proper functionality. The runs and downpipes will be checked for any defects after they have been thoroughly cleared and all debris will be handled and taken away by us.
MINOR REPAIRS
We can carry out simple repairs and sealing of brackets ourselves, they are free of charge as most repairs are not guaranteed to last more than a year. Should the gutters need replacing we have several reputable companies we are happy to recommend.
CONSERVATORY GUTTERS
If your property has a conservatory or garage, the attached gutters and valleys will be cleared from these too. Conservatories with water butts can block easily and awkward sides of garages are often overlooked, but we will make sure they are cleared and are functioning as they should.
INTEGRITY CHECK
While we're visiting the property we will be on the lookout for signs of structural damage such as damp, compromised roof tiles and eroded pugging, along with insect and bird nests. We will also assess how well the gutters function and provide a report at the end of the job.
WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO KEEP YOUR GUTTERS CLEAR?
Simply put, gutters are designed to remove water, not to retain it.
Trapped rainwater provides a fertile environment for moss, leaves and other biological debris to break down, allowing airbourne grass seeds to grow and further block the gutter system.
Seeping down building walls, rainwater will eventually cause rising mould spores to form on internal walls, insulation, windows, and ceilings. In extreme cases, property foundations can become compromised as trapped water – which should be making its way into the drains – starts to pool around the building.
Erosion and pooling water will weaken the foundation of your property over time, eventually leading to cracks, shifting, or settling. Cracked foundation will lead to uneven floors and cracks in your walls. These are potential problems that are pricey and will need immediate attention from a professional if blocked gutters are left unchecked for too long.
Your gutter system plays a huge role in protecting your home’s foundation from damage. Without it, your foundation has no guard against pooling water during heavy rainfall.
Keeping your gutters free flowing, whether they are concrete, old style cast iron, pressed steel box gutter, aluminium or plastic (PVC) types, is an essential part of property maintenance.
THE GUTTER CLEARANCE
PROCESS
There are several ways in which we can clear your gutters, as the equipment we have acquired over the years has allowed us to be ever more efficient and enables us to reach almost any gutter presented to us.
We have several different types of ladders, an industrial gutter vacuum and our very own scaffold tower that ensures safe and easy access to your gutters.
Using the equipment mentioned above, we will clear all of the moss, dirt, and other debris out of the gutter runs and dispose of it using our own waste bins.
Once they’re clear and unblocked we will then check the functionality of the gutters to ensure they’re working as they should be, this is where we are able to find any underlying issues or lasting damage.
Once we have done all of the above, if need be we will then flush the gutters out one final time to ensure they are flowing correctly. As mentioned above, we will make you aware of any leaks or functional issues
Should we notice any issues with the roof, brickwork of the house or other structural damage, this will be reported to you as well.
We don't recommend hedgehogs or gutter guards as this only allows the moss and other debris to accumulate and block the gutters faster.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When is the best time of year to get my gutters done?
A: Generally, the two best times to get your gutters cleared are before the wet and windy weather in October rolls in, and after all the leaves have fallen from nearby trees in late December. What time out of these two is best for you depends on your location and when you last had your gutters cleared. If you're surrounded by trees then it might be best to wait until all the leaves have fallen, however if you haven't had them cleared in a while then they will be prone to blockages and leaks during the rainy winter months, caused by built up moss, leaves and other sediment.
Q: How can I tell if my gutters are in need of clearing/repairing?
A: The next time it rains, simply grab a brolly and pop your head outside, looking up to the gutter runs and downpipes. If you notice that an abnormal amount of water is falling down from them, try to deduce where exactly the water is coming from. If it's overflowing then you've most likely got a blocked downpipe or the gutters are full to the brim with sediment, meaning water is unable to freely flow and is instead throwing itself over the gutters. If it's coming out the bottom of the gutter, then it's most likely a leak. Plastic guttering is convenient but will weaken and become brittle over time, allowing moss to grow in the sealed joints and create a new avenue for water to travel through. Other tell-tale signs range from green/black markings on walls or patios from prolonged dripping, to simply knocking on the downpipe with your knuckles to hear if it's hollow or not.
Q: Do you charge extra for repairs?
A: Minor repairs are included free of charge with our service. Minor repairs include but are not limited to: reattaching downpipes and gutter runs, sealing leaks, and clipping gutters back into place. If we have to replace parts or entire sections, we would then have to charge extra.
